Dale E. Cardwell

February 23, 1950 — February 11, 2022

Dale E. Cardwell died suddenly at home on Friday, February 11, 2022.  He is survived by his sisters Dorothy A. Berry (Steve Spencer) of Alpine and Dinah K. Berry of Sugar Land; 2 nephews and their families; an aunt, and several cousins; many friends made in Alpine, Wimberley and at his beloved high school – San Marcos Academy.

Dale was born on February 23, 1950 in Houston Texas.  He attended San Marcos Baptist Academy for 4 years.  In his senior year, he was promoted to Cadet Colonel, the highest rank for the student cadets.  Dale was very active in the alumni activities, serving several years as president of the Alumni Association.  He was most helpful in assisting the Alumni Administrator with homecoming and the memory room.

He attended TCU and graduated from the University of Houston.  He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

Dale lived for over 30 years in Wimberley.  In his time there, he was a member of the community theater, both acting in and writing plays.  He was so proud of that accomplishment.  He subsequently retired and relocated to Alpine 2 years ago.  He was a regular vendor at the Alpine Farmers Market.  You could find him there every Saturday morning, no matter the weather, selling his painted snakes, walking sticks and other hand made wares.  He loved the market and it was a big part of his life for the past 2 years.

The family is planning a celebration of his life by getting together with friends at Spicewood Restaurant in Alpine, on his birthday, Wednesday, February 23 from 12 to 3.

Dale would be so honored and proud to have people reminiscing about him and the character that he was.
