Joe Rawlen “Joey” Brooks Jr.

May 28, 1960 — May 19, 2022

Joe Rawlen “Joey” Brooks Jr. went home to his Lord, Thursday, May 19, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
Joey was born May 28, 1960, in Clyde, Texas to Joe Rawlins, Sr. and Phyliss Dorinda Brooks (Henson).
Joey met his bride Paula Morea at the historic Supper Club in Alpine, Texas August 1995. The family says
Paula refused his invitation to have supper with him that night and politely declined, but Joey pursued
her with fervor. They were married in September 1997
He owned and operated Brook’s & Son’s and later Brook’s Onsight Service. Joey began his career in his
father’s footsteps as a pipe fitter, plumber, machine operator and in construction at the age of 17 years,
traveling and working all over the United States.
Later in life, Joey took his company and family when he traveled to work on building prisons, hospitals,
and county buildings. He worked on Morris Hall at Sul Ross, and the McDonald Observatory.
Joey was known in his community as a collector of anything and could fix anything, philosopher,
storyteller, truth detector and defender, stern but fair. He was willing to help anyone at anytime or any
need. He was respected for his honesty. His family remembers him as man who took care of his family
with unconditional love, he was coach, fan, spectator, deep thinker, logician, a passionate, stubborn
leader.
Joey was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, river trips, camping and kayaking with his
good friends and family
The family said he had a fire inside when it came to serving his Lord. He was ordained as a minister
under Pastor Bill Simpson at Tall City Baptist Church, Midland, Texas in 1992. He used this gift and took
up his cross as a missionary building churches.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., May 25, 2022, at Davis Mountains Community Church
located at 500 Tomahawk Trail, Ft. Davis, Texas with Pastor Michael Logan officiating.
